Why I do what I do

Fo  me, it's always been a left brain/right brain issue. I've had jobs in the past that were very technical in nature.  Athough challenging, they were very unfufilling to the creative side of me.  I've also had jobs that were purely creative and the nerdy, technical part of me was unfulfilled.  Video post production was the perfect blend of the technical and creative.

I especially love the variety of my work.  I've had the opportunity to edit and color a wide range of projects over the years.  I'm able to bring to bring a lot of experience to each poject.  I've had the opportunity to work with some of the best producers, director's, DP's, VFX/graphics and audio specialists in the business and have learned from them all.

How I do what I do

Here are some of the main tools in my tool belt.  I've had numerous years of experience with each of them.  This expereince has not only given me the knowledge of how these tools are used but also a deep understanding of their individual strengths and weaknesses.  This is vital when picking the right tool for the job

Avid Symphony

Avid has been the backbone of my video editorial for the majority of my career., especially for long form and large multicam projects.  The ability to simultaneously work and share media bewteen my two edit bays has been an incredible resource.

DaVinci Resolve

I purchased and began using DaVinci Resolve for color correcting my projects immediately after it became avalable for use on the Mac.  It has transformed the quality and speed my work.  It has immediately become my go to color correcting tool.

Autodesk Smoke has long been regarded as a high end finishing tool combining numerous features in one package.  I have found it to be an incredible resource for projects that require editing, color, VFX, graphics and compositing.

Adobe Premiere Pro has come a long way since I used version 1 on my first project back in 1994.  I find myself using it more and more.  Especially on short form projects with a lot of graphics.

Adobe After Effects

I've been using After Effects before Adobe even owned it (originally made by CoSA).  It has become the industry standard for motion graphics and compositing.

ProTools is the undisputed leader for DAW's. Having a full 5.1 ProTools HD system in house is crucial for maintaining the utmost quality for audio on all projects.

The Craft of Editing

The Art of Finishing

The skill sets of editing and finishing are so different yet so closely tied.  Both require a creative eye along with a technical understanding of the tools needed to acheive the desired results.
